What is a Puffy Mattress? Is Puffy Lux A Good Mattress

Puffy is a brand that’s proudly made in Canada. Each foam layer of a Puffy mattress has been designed and produced in Canada specifically to ensure quality with each and every mattress that comes out of their factory floor.

Puffy abides by Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX, a standard label by OEKO-TEX that ensures that your mattress is made without any harmful substances and is always safe to use. Puffy mattress foams are also CertiPUR-US certified, ensuring that the foams are made without any heavy ozone depleters, PBDEs, TDCPP, or TCEP flame retardants, mercury, lead, heavy metals, formaldehyde, and phthalates. Puffy keeps both your internal and external environment safe with each mattress it provides.

Puffy spent many years perfecting its blend of materials by performing sleep trials and formula runs. Because they only make small quantities of foam mattresses, Puffy believes that they are high-quality. Puffy’s proprietary foam is not compressed before it arrives at your door. This ensures that it retains its hand-crafted quality.

Puffy also wears its recognition proudly on its website. Puffy was voted best mattress in several publications in 2021. These include health.com’s recognition that Puffy is the best side-sleeper’s mattress and healthline.com’s recognition that Puffy is one of the top-rated mattress-in a-box products online.

What Kind of Mattresses Does Puffy Mattress Have?

Puffy offers two types of mattress: the original Puffy mattress or the Puffy Lux. The foam layers of both mattresses are the same, although the Puffy Lux is 2 inches taller than their original Puffy mattress, which measures 10 inches. The Puffy Lux mattress also comes with an additional foam layer compared to the Puffy Original, essentially making the Puffy Lux a 6-layer mattress, including its top and base covers.

The Puffy original mattress is Puffy’s 5-layer foam mattress meant for sleepers who enjoy a medium-firm mattress that doesn’t sacrifice comfort or durability. The Puffy Lux, on the other hand, is intended to be medium-plus and helps assist sleepers who experience spinal alignment issues. Both mattresses keep your body aligned and reduce pressure that builds up over time. You can use the Puffy mattress on many different bed frames and should adapt to any sleeping position.

Puffy is a mattress manufacturer that specializes in foam-type mattresses. While they may have branded their proprietary foam for the standard sleeper, these may resemble polyurethane or memory foam mattresses. The issue with pure foam mattresses is that they may deform easily over regular use. This problem of deformity is especially prevalent in memory foam-type beds, where the contours of regularly positioned bodies stay long after the sleeper has left the mattress.

Some mattresses have bypassed this issue by opting for a “hybrid” design. They combine older technology, such as the spring coil, with modern materials like memory foam. With these hybrid mattresses, you can expect to get the stability and structure of a coil mattress with the plushness and comfort that foam brings.

How Does Puffy Affect My Sleep?

Each Puffy mattress comes with multiple layers of foam to help support and contour your body’s natural shape while you sleep. The focus of each layer will determine how each layer affects your sleep.

The first Puffy mattress layer is their stain-resistant cloud cover. This removable layer cover, which is soft and comfortable to touch, can be washed on the rare occasion that you need it. The Puffy cloud cover has been OKEO-TEX approved and is hypoallergenic for people with severe allergies.

The first foam layer of a Puffy mattress is its Cooling Cloud Foam, a unique gel-infused foam formulation designed by Puffy itself. This foam was designed to absorb excess body heat for a more comfortable and cooling sleep experience. This foam was also intended to be non-damaging to the environment and uses an aCertiPUR-US certified manufacturing process called Variable Pressure Foaming, or VPF.

The Puffy Lux’s Body-Adapting Dual Cloud foam is exclusive to them. This VPF-manufactured foam can be adapted to your body and sleeping position to relieve tension around pressure points. With the Dual Cloud foam, you get the comfort of pressure relief without sacrificing the support your body needs.

Climate comfort foam from Puffy helps with all of this. It regulates temperature to maintain stability in the face of temperature fluctuations. It helps the top layers provide pressure relief.

The last foam on a Puffy mattress is their WFP-manufactured polyurethane Firm Core Support foam meant to support all the above layers and keep the overall structure of the bed stable throughout regular use. All these layers are then surrounding by the Puffy grip base cover, which helps keep the mattress from sliding around on the bed frame.

It goes to show that every part of the Puffy mattress has been thought out to assist and better your sleep. From temperature regulation to body support, it’s no doubt that Puffy has manufactured a bed that knows what it’s made of.

What is the Average Price for a Puffy Mattress?

You will eventually have to pay brass tax on any mattress. Depending on which brand you choose, your mattress could cost you between $2000 and $3000 at times. With Puffy, though, you can enjoy a quality luxury mattress for as low as $749 for their original Twin mattress. This is a 10-inch premium engineered foam mattress for just a quarter the price of other luxury mattresses.

Puffy offers a 101-night trial so you can decide if Puffy mattress is right for you. You can return the mattress to Puffy and continue to test its comfort for up to 101 nights. Puffy will give you a full refund and free returns if the mattress does not meet your expectations.

Puffy is so confident in their mattresses that they offer a lifetime warranty. If you find that anything is wrong with your mattress, you can contact Puffy, and they will do their best to solve your problem, even replacing your mattress if needed.

Though it’s not all easy when it comes to Puffy mattresses of different sizes, a twin mattress may get you where you need to go if you’re single or you don’t plan on sharing the bed with anyone. If you are expecting more than one person to sleep in your bed, or if you simply want the extra space, you will have to pay more. You can expect to pay $1000 for a queen-sized mattress, or almost $1500 for one that is California King-sized.

This price increase is much more noticeable with the Puffy Lux mattresses. The entry-level Puffy Lux size will cost you $1500 for a twin-sized Puffy Lux mattress. The queen size, which is a popular size, costs $2,000 and goes up every year. Although not everyone will need the Puffy mattress in its luxury version, it is likely that people won’t be able to afford the more expensive mattresses.

Are there other bed accessories and products available from Puffy?

You might decide that the mattress isn’t right for you, or that you already own a Puffy mattress and are looking for companions. Puffy has you covered with their extensive range of bed accessories, frames and related bed furniture. Is Puffy Lux A Good Mattress

Puffy has three additional store categories for people looking for bedroom items apart from just mattresses. The first additional category would be bed bases, which come in three types: foundational, adjustable, and complete bed frame. Each one is ordered from cheapest to most expensive, allowing you to pick the type of bed base most suitable for your room space and budget.

Puffy then has mattress beddings available on the site as well. You may be eligible to receive a mattress protector or pillow during promotional periods. But if you happen not to be so lucky, you can easily buy yourself some accessories with your purchase to complete your mattress delivery. All you’ll need to do then is wait for your entire purchase to be delivered to you, and you get a complete bed set in one package. Is Puffy Lux A Good Mattress

Lastly, Puffy also has related bedroom furniture in their bedroom catalog. You can buy a nice throw rug for your bedroom made by Puffy and enjoy a nice complimentary piece to your new mattress. You can even get a Puffy mattress for man’s best friend as Puffy’s dog mattresses are made with the same care and attention as those they make for you.

Our Verdict

Puffy mattresses are a good choice for those sleepers looking for total foam mattresses and don’t mind the slightly higher than the average cost for their beds. The Cooling Cloud Foam technology makes them stand out from standard memory foam mattresses and other direct-to consumer mattresses. The Puffy entry price for one twin size mattress is reasonably accessible to most people looking to invest in a better mattress and is still a far cry from most luxury bed dealers.

But it’s important to note that the price of Puffy does tend to increase once you start looking beyond entry-level beds. Puffy Lux mattresses are often more expensive than the market because they have one layer of foam. Their attention to the foam may also hinder in a way as full foam mattresses may lack the structure that some sleepers are looking for. Is Puffy Lux A Good Mattress

For us, Puffy is a decent choice for the average shopper, but it will benefit you to also check out other mattresses available online that ship directly to you. While Casper and the like may be household names in the mattress industry, you can also check other independent mattress suppliers such as DreamCloud. DreamCloud is an excellent example of a mattress company that does the newer hybrid composition method for comfort and stability when sleeping. DreamCloud Twin’s entry-level DreamCloud Twin mattress is priced at $699, which is a great deal for a budget-friendly option. Give DreamCloud a look when deciding for your next mattress, and you may walk away with better nights down the road.

Is Puffy Lux A Good Mattress

girl-sleeping

Puffy is a leading direct-to-consumer mattress dealer in the country. Puffy is proudly Canadian-owned, and operated. Its proprietary foam technologies like their Cooling Cloud foam or Climate Comfort foam have made it a leader in the bedding market.

Puffy is still a top-rated North American mattress company that specializes in full foam mattresses. However, they are not the only ones vying to win customer attention. How does Puffy hold up against some of the other popular brands out there? Let’s find out.

The Puffy Mattress: A Review Is Puffy Lux A Good Mattress

Before getting into any of the comparisons, it’s good to review the ins and outs of Puffy as a mattress company, so we have a better sense of how it stacks up compared to the competition.

Types of Mattresses Available

Puffy has two mattresses available on its website, the Puffy Original and the Puffy Lux. The mattresses are available in a variety of sizes from Twin to California King. The construction of both mattresses is identical, except for the Puffy Lux’s extra foam layer that raises its mattress height to 12 inches (compared to the Puffy Original’s 10 inches).

Every Puffy mattress begins with Cooling Cloud foam. This proprietary foam composition by Puffy ensures a uniform heat transfer while providing a soft and supportive sleep environment. Assisting the Cooling Cloud foam top layer are Climate Control foam and the pressure-relieving firm support base. Climate Control foam is an intermediary layer between top gel foam and bottom support base, increasing the mattress’s ability to regulate temperature. The support base serves as the final foundation of the entire mattress, giving it structure and preventing you from sinking too deep into the bed. The entire mattress was created with temperature regulation, spine alignment, pressure relief and temperature regulation in mind.

The Puffy Lux comes with an extra layer of foam, the Plush Dual Cloud Foam. This foam gives you two additional inches and helps to ease tension from long days. The Puffy Lux and the Puffy Original are wrapped in a hypoallergenic and grippy top and bottom mattress cover, respectively.

Pricing Point for Mattresses

When it comes to choosing the right mattress for you, price is going to be a major determining factor. Puffy’s price point is in the middle of the spectrum. It is not too costly but not necessarily cheap.

An entry-level Puffy mattress, that is to say, their Twin sized original Puffy mattress, will set you back an easy CAD$750. Be aware that Queen-sized mattresses and beyond will cost you more than CAD$1,000. This goes double for the Puffy Lux mattress, which will reach over CAD$2,000 for the exact sizes as the original.

With all the ins and outs of Puffy accounted for, let’s now see how it matches up against some other popular brands online.

Puffy Mattresses vs. Emma Mattresses

Emma is an online icon, thanks to their extensive use of online marketing. Puffy, a proudly Canadian business, is Emma’s source for their technologies. Their German-born designs are specifically geared towards temperature control as well as spinal alignment.

Will this European-designed bed be able to ship anywhere?

There are many types of mattresses available

Emma Original uses a proprietary foam technology similar to Puffy. It is designed to provide a plush and soft feel while still maintaining the structure of a mattress. Their memory foam and latex technology are responsible for this hybrid and balanced softness. Their leading foam later used in all their mattresses is called Airgocell and is designed to adapt to pressure to better respond to body movements while sleeping.

Emma’s visco elastic memory foam acts as a second layer between the Airgocell layer and the supporting base layer. This is similar to Puffy’s construction of their Cooling Cloud foam and their pressure release foam layers on top of their firm supportive core foam. Though what’s interesting with Emma’s mattresses is that their supportive foundational foam (the bottom-most layer) has ridges all around its top, which is meant to provide an additional spinal alignment benefit and counter any pressure you put on the mattress.

Emma sells only the original Puffy mattress, unlike other sellers. There is no Emma Lux or Emma Premier type, just the standard 10-inch mattress on which Emma pulls its entire catalog.

Price Point of Mattresses

Since Emma only has one type of mattress, it will be easier to compare the prices to Puffy’s Original mattress. Emma certainly makes it much easier for new customers to try out their mattresses as their entry-level price point is at a low CAD$419 compared to Puffy’s CAD$700 twin-sized beds. Even Emma’s Queen size mattress comes in cheaper than Puffy’s twin size.

Emma’s single mattress option eliminates the need for expensive options like Puffy. You won’t need to choose between a standard or premium version as Emma has backed all its focus on its standard size.

Final Winner

Choice-wise, Puffy does have Emma beat. You can choose from a variety of mattresses, including premium and original versions, as well as additional accessories such sheets, covers, pillows and bases.

But Emma does have one advantage on their side: price. Emma comes in so much cheaper than Puffy while delivering close to the same type of premium comfort. Emma has similar customer protection plans, with warranties and trial plans identical to that of Puffy. If you’re a newbie to the mattress scene or just aren’t looking to spend too much on a new mattress, Emma might be the brand for you.

Puffy Mattresses vs. Nectar Mattresses

From European design, we now move to the proudly New York-raised mattress company Nectar. Once viewed as one of the fastest-growing e-businesses in the US as well as a top place to work, Nectar promises a suite of different mattresses shipped directly to your door.

Nectar uses similar foam technologies to Puffy and provides different mattresses that expand its catalog of beds available. This expanded catalog will be the difference between Nectar and Puffy.

There are many types of mattresses available

Nectar has not 1, not 2, but 3 total mattresses available on its website for purchase, all with varying degrees of softness, plushness, and even material compositions. Already Nectar has Puffy beat with the number of choices, but it’s still to be determined if more choices equal a better mattress brand.

Nectar’s first mattress is their original Nectar Memory Foam 12-inch mattress. This mattress comes with five separate layers, again similar to how Puffy designed its foam mattresses. The first layer of their mattress is their Nectar Smart Layer, a gel memory foam that helps alleviate pressure with its high-density construction.

The Nectar Smart layer is supported by two additional foams: the Nectar Dynamic support Layer and their Stay Stable Support Layer. These foams help stabilize your body as you sleep, minimize motion transfer, and keep the mattress on the base. This is all wrapped in Nectar’s quilted Cool Cover that regulates temperature and Nectar’s shift-resistant lower covering, which provides stability by securing the mattress to the bed frame. If you’re looking for a mattress with a medium firmness that helps your body to be enveloped in memory foam while you sleep, the Nectar Memory Foam mattress might be good for you.

There is a Premier version of the Nectar Memory Foam mattress that looks similar to the Puffy and Puffylux versions. The Nectar Premier memory Foam mattress comes with all the same features as the standard Nectar Memory Foam. However, it comes with a thicker and more advanced Nectar Smart Layer, now with enhanced ActiveCoolHD. The total height of the mattress is now 13 inches. It is specifically designed to further assist in keeping the mattress cool and regulating your body temperature while you sleep.

Lastly, the most premium mattress that Nectar has available is their Nectar Premier Copper mattress. This mattress combines everything good about the previous two Nectar mattresses and adds more thickness to each layer. The mattress is 14 inches thick, so you won’t feel anything but the supportive and plushy comfort. To add to this, the maximum temperature regulating quilted cover is upgraded to include copper-infused threads that help dissipate heat and other heat conductive fibers that keep the mattress cool to the touch.

Price Point of Mattresses

Nectar’s Twin-sized memory foam mattress is priced at a reasonable $499. You won’t need to add too much if you want a queen size and larger, as these mattresses come in at $899 and up.

The premium versions are more expensive and will take more out of your pocket. The queen-sized Nectar Premier will set you back $1299, while you can get the more luxurious Nectar Premier Copper for $1699. Still, these mattresses are already a great deal thicker than the ones Puffy has on offer. The Puffy Lux still comes in more expensive at its largest sizes compared to the largest of these Nectar mattresses.

Even better for Nectar is that all purchases usually come with $399 in freebies. These freebies can change according to the season, but usually include pillows, protectors, and mattress covers. Each purchase also comes with a lifetime warranty, a full-year trial, and free shipping to make the purchase that much easier.

Final Winner

Nectar seems to have Puffy beat in terms of price and sheer options available to shoppers. Even the value of each purchase of a Nectar mattress is better by comparison as Nectar throws in additional freebies on top of the purchase itself.

The only flaw in Nectar would be the availability of its products to non-US residents. While Puffy exclusively ships to Canada, Nectar exclusively ships to the US. The location of your chosen destination will ultimately determine where you live.

Puffy Mattresses vs. Casper Mattresses

We had to include Casper. Casper was not included in a comparison of the best soft drinks. Casper’s high price is a common comparison with newer brands but it remains a top choice for many shoppers looking for a mattress.

Puffy makes Casper’s higher prices a reason to choose the Puffy mattress. Will Casper bow out to this newer Canadian brand?

There are many types of mattresses available

Casper offers four options to choose from instead of Puffy’s limited selections. Three of the variants have two variations each. Casper offers seven different mattresses, with three of them having two variants each.

Casper’s first mattress is a traditional foam mattress that uses two layers of foam for its total construction. Known as the Element mattress, this is Casper’s entry-level mattress for those looking for something simple with no frills. Casper’s Airscape perforated foam is used as the top layer on their mattresses. This allows heat to escape better while you sleep. Below this is their high-density foam base that prevents sagging and supports your whole body while you rest.

The Casper Original is next on the Casper catalog. The Casper original uses three different layers of foam now, the first being the classic Airscape foam, which is then supported by their Zoned Support Memory Foam and the standard base support foam. The Zoned Support foam is unique because it is essentially an area-specific memory foam, with some parts being firmer than others depending on which component needs more support (hence the term zoned).

What’s interesting is that you can get the Casper Original as a hybrid mattress. Hybrid mattresses have become more popular because they combine new memory foam technology and the reliable design of inner coils that are better than older mattresses. Casper coils provide support and lift for your mattress and help you get out when you’re done.

The following two mattress types are much more premium than what we’ve seen previously. The Casper Nova Hybrid Snow Mattress is specifically designed for heat regulation. The mattress’s multilayer foam and coil technology is enhanced with cooling gels and thermal bands.

Lastly, the Wave Hybrid is Casper’s premium mattress with supportive sleep in mind. You can get this with the same cooling technology found in the Nova Hybrid Snow mattresses. The Wave’s main selling point is the three additional layers of perforated foam. This provides the support you require without feeling stiff. Experience proper spinal support and comfort while you rest with Casper’s most premium throughout bed design.

Pricing Point for Mattresses

Casper’s biggest problem is its price. Casper mattresses tend to be more expensive than others. However, the prices for their premium mattresses can sometimes seem ridiculous. Is Puffy Lux A Good Mattress

Casper’s entry-level Element mattress is priced at $545 for a twin. Casper Element mattresses in queen sizes and larger will cost you at least $800.

Things start to get expensive when you consider the Original, Nova, and Wave variants, as their initial mattresses all cross $1,000 easily when considering a queen-size mattress. This number doubles for the Nova and Wave variants, with the King size reaching about $4,500 for the Wave mattress.

Final Winner

Puffy is the clear winner here because of its simplicity and price. It won’t make sense for people on a budget to spend close to double for a Casper mattress when they can get a mattress that is just as good (or better at times) for a much more manageable price.

Puffy Mattresses vs. Nolah Mattresses

Nolah is another proudly American mattress company that specializes in both foam mattresses and hybrid mattresses. Nolah doesn’t use old materials such as pure foam latex and memory foam, but instead uses their AirFoam mattress layers. Is Puffy Lux A Good Mattress

Nolah’s foam is stated to be 100% temperature neutral and provides better pressure relief for your joints. Let’s see how this compares to the mattresses Puffy has on offer.

There are many types of mattresses available

Nolah has three distinct mattresses on offer, the Noah Original 10-inch, the upgraded Nolah Signature 12-inch, and the luxury Nolah Evolution 15-inch mattress. Both the Original and the Signature share many of the construction designs as both are fully foam mattresses. The Nolah Evolution proves to be the outlier as it is hybrid in design and uses Nolah’s bed inner-coil configuration.

Signature and Original mattresses have the same three layers of foam. The first is Nolah’s AirFoam, which provides temperature regulation and pressure relief. The following two layers, which are the Deep Resiliiance Foam and the High-Density Base Foam, provide additional support to these functions. Signature mattresses have extra thickness in their foam layers, and an additional firm AirFoam layer underneath the base foam. This allows you to easily adjust how firm or soft you would like your mattress to feel. Is Puffy Lux A Good Mattress

Nolah’s Evolution mattress is Nolah’s best-selling model. This is due to the HDMax Eco Support Coils Nolah created to provide better pressure relief, additional cooling, and structural support around the edges.

Price Point of Mattresses

Nolah is a direct-to-consumer mattress that was launched in the last few years. However, their prices are comparable to what higher-end mattress dealers charge for their mattresses. The starting Queen size Original mattress costs $899, and the Nolah Evolution doubles that to $1600. While it is not as bad as brands like Casper or Purple, it certainly isn’t a bargain by any means.

Final Winner

Despite being higher in the price range, Nolah still comes out cheaper in entry compared to Puffy. Nolah has more options than Puffy, which makes it a better mattress dealer. However, you will need to be in the United States to get their wide selection of mattresses.

Puffy Mattress vs. DreamCloud Mattress

Our final contender for the list, DreamCloud’s mattresses are built with luxury in mind, without reaching inordinate prices. Specializing in hybrid mattresses, DreamCloud has endeavored to be an accessible brand for all while providing the same quality you can expect from legacy mattress brands. Is Puffy Lux A Good Mattress

Let’s see what else DreamCloud has to offer.

There are many types of mattresses available

DreamCloud has three mattresses that they sell on their website, the DreamCloud original, their higher-end DreamCloud Premier, and the DreamCloud Premier Rest. Each bed uses similar hybrid construction of coil and foam, with the higher-end models adding more layers and thickness to the composition.

Five essential layers are required to make the DreamCloud original and all DreamCloud mattresses. The first layer is their gel memory foam made to contour to your body while you rest. The second layer is their Sink-In-Just-Right layer. This layer supports the essential base foam layer. These help provide optimal comfort without sacrificing support. To give the mattress a cool and soft touch, they have added a cashmere-quilted top layer. Is Puffy Lux A Good Mattress

The DreamCloud Premier Rest and DreamCloud Premier Rest are identical mattresses. They have additional layers of foam and higher support coils. The main difference the two have is the added height given by the Premier Rest. Every Premier version includes pressure-relieving foam layers as well as enhanced support layers. All designed to provide maximum comfort.

Pricing Point for Mattresses

Despite having three mattresses of varying qualities available on their website, DreamCloud does keep their entry-level prices accessible to most at $699 for their Twin size original mattress. Though some DreamCloud versions can be a bit pricey, they never breach the $2,000 mark. This says a lot for a mattress brand that makes a more complicated hybrid mattress approach without raising prices too much. Is Puffy Lux A Good Mattress

Every purchase comes with $399 worth goods such as additional pillows, mattress protectors and sheets. Coupled with a lifetime warranty and a full-year worth of no-strings-attached sleep trial, you can literally rest easy with your DreamCloud purchase.

Final Winner

DreamCloud’s mattresses are more flexible and supportive than traditional memory foam mattresses Puffy, while still being affordable. We recommend that you try one if you are in DreamCloud’s serviceable regions.

In Summary Is Puffy Lux A Good Mattress

Puffy seems to be right about the claim that it is more affordable than Casper in terms of price. Compared to what other brands are currently doing now, Puffy appears to be lagging in terms of price, functionality, and reach.

Puffy will be a top choice for Canadian residents. Puffy won’t deliver to the US if you are a US citizen. We recommend that you choose another brand that serves the US directly. If we were to choose, DreamCloud’s advanced hybrid technologies seem to shine amongst all the brands we’ve reviewed so far, and we would suggest giving their website a visit if ever you’re in the market for a mattress.
